Castanarc are a prog/symphonic/pop band based in Yorkshire. Formed in 1979 they released their debut album ‘Journey To The East’ in 1983.

The band split up in 1984 leaving the core of Mark Holiday (vocals), David Powell (keyboards) and producer John Spence to carry on. They signed with RCA Records in 1986 and the second album ‘Rude Politics’ was completed that same year working with guest musicians.

Their third album ‘Burnt Offerings’ appeared in 1989 and was a quirky collection of previously unreleased and experimental material issued on the band’s own Khepra Records label.
There was subsequently a gap of seven years before album number four ‘Little Gods’ emerged and then everything went very quiet for 24 years!

Holiday, Powell and Spence stayed very much in touch but each was busy working on other projects.

In 2019 it was decided that they had enough previously unreleased material and B sides to release a new collection of songs which became ‘Water From The Well’ released on Khepra in 2020. It also featured a new recording of the very first Holiday/Powell composition ‘Quest For Eternity’ written in 1979.

The reaction to ‘Water From The Well’ was very positive and stimulated a healthy demand for the back catalogue which was by now all available from Khepra Records.

Writing for the new album ‘The Sea Of Broken Vows’ started in late 2019. Recording commenced in January 2020 and then was derailed by the pandemic that was Covid 19. Ever resourceful the band developed working methods to continue and by April 2021 producer John Spence had pulled all the strands together to form what is probably
Castanarc’s strongest work to date.
